After posting the event coverage on Instagram, the post garnered over 8,000 views, 126 likes and 23 shares. The use of social media to cover events successfully allowed for us to reach two times more viewers on this Instagram post than the redwoodbark.org website gets in a week.

Board meeting debrief:
water polo triumphs, AI task forces and diploma seals kick off the new year
Summary
On January 14th, 2026, the Tamalpais Union High School District Board of Trustees met to discuss and review multiple different topics including recognition for the Redwood High School boys water polo team, an update on the district's AI task force, and a proposal for a new seal to be put on high school diplomas. This event coverage reported on most major topics and events during the meeting. The story is split up to six 'micro-stories' that each explain a section of the meeting.

Why it mattered

"[AI is] not a tool for learning, and our job is learning here in this district. And if a kid gets used to asking AI, they’re going to default to asking AI... [AI] is trying to flatten the skills and make our learning more shallow."
Board President Cynthia Roenisch
No other publications wrote about this board meeting. The meeting, while underattended, included many important updates and discussions for the future of the district. The meeting heavily reflected concerns with artificial intelligence in schools, new graduation seals that could help students after high school and other discussions that are informant for the district community.
Alt-ed in crisis as board votes 4-1 on a Tamiscal-San Andreas campus merge

On December 15th, 2025,
The Tamalpais Union High School District Board of Trustees finalized their decision in a 4-1 vote to merge the campuses of San Andreas and Tamiscal alternative education high schools in order to meet budget constraints. The decision sparked emotions in the alt-ed community as dozens came to the meeting to speak out against the decision. The ruling left students, staff and parents dissatisfied, sometimes, in tears. Although an unpopular decision, it was in order to prevent overspending by the district. The spending deficit, ever growing, needed to be relieved. The only option to relieve the deficit, a two million dollar cut to alt-ed programs. Bark was able to report on the difficult decision of co-location rapidly and with high quality reporting.
